Antarctica

From late 2011 I will travel to Antarctica to spend one year at Concordia, a french-italian station, employed as a Research MD conducting research for the European Space Agency. The research will be used to help understand how far human physiology and psychology can be pushed towards a future manned mission to Mars.

Living and over-wintering as the only British national among a team of 14 europeans in the most extreme and remote environment on the planet, offering 4 months of 24-hour darkness, with the world’s coldest temperatures dropping down to below minus 80 degrees Celcius, at an altitude of 3800m equivalent altitude, in complete isolation with no means of escape for 8 months.
