I am now in the ‘150 DEGREES CLUB’, of which there are three members.

Today I joined Frenchie and our Astronomer, Karim, for a Sauna.

The Sauna was built at our base in Antarctica a few years ago by a (lunatic) Norweigan who came here to drill ice holes.

The outdoor temperature was Minus 50.1 degrees.  It seems the Americans have a 100 DEGREES CLUB.  To better the Americans, we have made a 150 DEGREES CLUB – where we went in one sweet step from Plus 100 degrees Celcius in the Sauna to Minus 50 degrees outside.  I pulled off a 100m sprint in my Hawaiian shorts and Crocs.  Just to see the British one step better than the French.

I hope the British Olympic athletes make the same effort.
Here lies the first piece of my own personal physiology research in Antarctica.  To my bosses at the European Space Agency – if we are going to Mars, please can we take a sauna?
