A doctor from Leicester is on his way to Sierra Leone to help in the war against the deadly Ebola virus.

Dr Alex Kumar, who left the UK today (Wednesday) will spend a month in the West African country.

The 31 year old, who is travelling with the Red Cross, has received specialist training to prepare for his trip.

Dr Kumar, who has held a clinical fellowship in infectious disease at Leicester Royal Infirmary since August, said: “What is happening in West Africa is terrible and it is unprecedented.
