I was lucky to visit Antarctica with my father onboard the National Geographic-Lindblad vessel Explorer over New Year’s. Driving past endless icebergs on a zodiac a turquoise cave caught my eye, and obliging staff zodiac driver and whale expert Conor Ryan, took us in a little closer. Like an old sand timer hour glass I had as a child, I found this ice clock ticking, dripping – climate change is melting and shaking the very foundation of Antarctica, the Polar Regions and impacts the Ocean systems on Earth, affecting weather and now human health. Here is a poignant reminder that time is running out and the sands of time are shifting.
